I. Evaluate if the patient is appropriate to implement the protocol
A. 1. Age Verification: Confirm that the individual seeking assistance falls within the age
range of 15 to 24 years old.
a) Is the patient 15 to 24 years old? Yes. No
(If yes, proceed to number 2. If no you may stop as this protocol is not applicable)
II. Initiate the protocol by assessing for Social Media Use Disorder
- Do Social Media Use (SMD) scale. See appendix A (If the patient shows risky or problematic social media use as indicated by SMD
scale do number 2. If not, you may stop as this protocol is not applicable) - Use Cyberbullying and Victimization Scale CYBVICS to assess for presence of
cyberbullying. See appendix B
Implement the CYBICS to evaluate the extent and nature of cyberbullying experienced
by the individual.
(If the patient responds number 2 on a likert scale on any of the 18 item questionnaire,
proceed to step 3 to 6)
- Presence of Family Support Assess for presence of family support, provide information about increasing family
support, refer for family therapy as needed.
Assess the presence and effectiveness of family support in dealing with cyberbullying
incidents. Involve family members in the intervention process where appropriate.
- Awareness of School programs/community Programs
Assess for awareness of school and community programs. Guide patient and family of reporting
cyberbullying. Inform applicable laws related to cyberbullying. - Support System Assess for support system such as mentors, counselors, friends. Assist patient in
increasing use of available support as needed. - Coping Skills
Evaluate the individual’s coping mechanisms and resilience in dealing with cyberbullying
situations. Provide education and training on coping strategies if needed.
III. Initiate Intervention and Support Plan:
Develop a comprehensive intervention and support plan tailored to the individual’s needs
and circumstances. This plan may include counseling, support group participation, digital
literacy education, and communication strategies.
IV Document records of assessments, interventions, and follow-up activities.
Maintain detailed records of assessments, interventions, and follow-up activities. Report
any incidents of severe cyberbullying or concerns for the individual’s safety to
appropriate authorities or support services.

V. Monitoring and Follow-Up:
Regularly monitor the individual’s progress and adjust the intervention plan as necessary.
Follow up with the individual to ensure ongoing support and address any emerging issues
related to cyberbullying.
VI. Education and Prevention:
Emphasize the importance of education and prevention efforts to raise awareness about
cyberbullying and promote positive online behaviors within the community.

Social Media Disorder (SMD) Scale
The Social Media Disorder (SMD) is a nine-item scale that measures problematic social media
use (SMU) among adolescents. Items cover topics such as preoccupation, tolerance, deception
and withdrawal.
Items:
We are interested in your experiences with social media. The term social media refers to social
network sites (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest) and instant messengers
(e.g., WhatsApp, Snapchat, Facebook messenger)- During the past year, have you regularly found that you can’t think of anything else but the
moment that you will be able to use social media again? - During the past year, have you regularly felt dissatisfied because you wanted to spend more
time on social media? - During the past year, have you often felt bad when you could not use social media?
- During the past year, have you tried to spend less time on social media, but failed?
- During the past year, have you regularly had no interest in hobbies or other activities because

Scoring Procedures
Item scores are summed. Endorsement of a maximum of criterion (score of 1 or lower) is
classified as normative SMU. 2-5 criteria is risky SMU and 6-9 is problematic SMU.
